Abraham Lincoln: The Racist!

A cursory examination of Abraham Lincoln's writings prove beyond a doubt he was indeed a racist. When the Civil War was inevitable, he changed his tune, but only for a bogus explanation. Now, Lincoln is glorified, history perverted, with blacks adoring Abraham Lincoln. But what is the actual truth about Abraham Lincoln? The truth is Lincoln was a white supremacist, masquerading as a Christian, quoting the Bible as if he believed it, to save the Union from something other than slavery. To Lincoln's defense, I doubt he ever claimed to be a Christian, his words affirming the Bible and God were political in nature. Let us read what Lincoln said about negroes, and slavery:

"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races - that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything."

-Fourth Debate with Stephen A. Douglas at Charleston, Illinois, September 18, 1858 (The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume III, pp. 145-146.)

Not only was Lincoln a racist, he allowed the Confederacy to keep slavery:

"No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give Congress the power to abolish or interfere within any state with the domestic institutions thereof, including that a person's held to labor or service by laws of said State."

-Abraham Lincoln-March of 1861

and

"The War is waged by the government of the United States not in the spirit of conquest or subjugation, nor for the purpose of overthrowing or interfering with the rights or institutions of the states, but to defend and protect the Union."

-This resolution was passed unanimously by Congress on July 23, 1861.

The above quote contradicts the quote below where Lincoln says the negroe race is the reason for the Civil War:

“See our present condition—the country engaged in war! Our White men cutting one another’s throats! And then consider what we know to be the truth. But for your race among us there could not be war, although many men engaged on either side do not care for you one way or another. “Why should the people of your race be colonized, and where? Why should they leave this country? This is, perhaps, the first question for proper consideration. You and we are different races. We have between us a broader difference than exists between almost any other two races. Whether it is right or wrong I need not discuss, but this physical difference is a great disadvantage to us both, as I think your race suffer very greatly, many of them by living among us, while ours suffer from your presence. In a word, we suffer on each side. If this be admitted, it affords a reason at least why we should be separated. It is better for both, therefore, to be separated.” [bold face mine]

— Spoken at the White House to a group of black community leaders, August 14th, 1862, from COLLECTED WORKS OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN, Vol 5, page 371.

Lincoln did not care about freeing the slaves! He incorrectly believed there was another reason that threatened the Union:

"If I could save the Union without freeing any slaves, I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves, I would do it, and if I could do it by freeing some and leaving others alone, I would also so that"

-Lincoln, (Voices of America, p.138).

Blacks today are Democrats, the party of slavery since Thomas Jefferson. How ironic is that? The so-called emancipator freed a race of people that aligns with the Democratic Party, which departed from their racist platform in the 1970's to gain the black voting bloc. Here is the last quote from Lincoln to his friend, the Vice President of the Confederacy:

"Do the people of the South really entertain fear that a Republican administration would directly or indirectly interfere with their slaves, or with them about their slaves? If they do, I wish to assure you that once, as a friend, and still I hope not as an enemy, that there is no cause for such fears. The South would be in no more danger in this respect than it was in the days of Washington."

-Abraham Lincoln to Alexander Stephens-Vice President of the Confederacy. Springfield, Ills., Dec. 22, 1860. Public and Private Letters of Alexander Stephens, p. 150.

I've had those quotes of Lincoln for several years, and I also see quotes on the net about Lincoln being a Christian. With Obama getting elected, I thought this a good time to post on Lincoln.

Unknown said...

There are other quotes by Lincoln that indicate his disgust with slavery, and his recognition of the need to end it. Compared to Christ, Lincoln comes up way short. Compared to other politicians of his day, Lincoln was progressive.

Hey Rob,

Thanks for commenting. I think you may be right about Lincoln and anti-slavery quotes, but that last quote I posted was a private letter to a friend.

It's possible Lincoln was against slavery, allowing the South to keep it, if that makes sense. It sounds like hypocrisy to me.

Whatever his views on slavery, he was no doubt a white supremist (sp)

LINCOLN WAS ANTI SLAVERY>

He may have been anti-slavery, but he didn't care about others having slaves, by reason the OP says about Lincoln.

Lincoln was just like any other politician and simply a product of his time. To say he was a racist is a TAD much. Granted it has been shown he mostly wanted to end slavey so he could win the war and reunite the Union I do not believe he was a racist.

There is little reason to think that Lincoln opposed slavery under any circumstances. He abhorred the Abolitionists, the advocates of immediate emancipation and equality of slaves on the grounds of human rights --a fact apparent from the scathing correspondences between himself and Abolitionist Lysander Spooner. Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation (an address that, when read carefully, would free no slaves) to acquire a moral high-ground and appeal to the Europeans to support the Union in the face of considerable military successes of the Confederacy. Following the Proclamation, many in the North were furious in the shift in policy, and many soldiers left the ranks in opposition to the principles of emancipation. New Jersey, for instance, effectively maintained legalized slavery until 1866.

On the other hand, Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson were outspoken critics of slavery on moral grounds. The former said as early as 1856 that "There are few, I believe, in this enlightened age, who will not acknowledge that slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil."

A more convincing catalyst for the war comes by way of Thomas DiLorenzo who provides convincing evidence that the South sought to secede over oppressive tariff on goods of approximately 50% imposed by the Lincoln administration. The Confederate Constitution made such tariffs unconstitutional in the south.

A lot of his quotes that he made during the civil war, before he was elected president, and so on was to try to first keep the union united, but when he was elected then states started to secede, then as a political move he made quotes such as these to keep other states from following suit, such as the bordering states of the confederacy. Ive always been interested in Lincoln my entire life, and yes people always bring up these quotes, but when you look at everything he said all together, he was anti slavery, but was a racist, no doubt about it, but so was basically every other white person from back then. Lincoln was against slavery, but as a politician had to make strategic moves to try to make it look like he was for it at some points, that way it didn't turn into a war where both sides had equal amounts of people. Was Abe honest? No, but he did save the union. And if you look at his last quote he sent it to then former senator Alexander Stephens who was also a friend to Stephen Douglas who was one of Lincoln's friends,I do not think that they were personally friends though, Stephens and Lincoln, so Lincoln saw a person that he could try to help keep Georgia in the Union, because Stephens ran against Lincoln in 1860 and Stephens called for the south to stick with the Union then, Lincoln definitely remembered this, but also in 1861 after the letter from Lincoln. It didn't work out for Lincoln, though Stephens still even voted against the secession in 1861 in Georgia's special convention they were holding, but did say that they had the right to secede, how out of everyone in the south Stephens was made vice president I don't know, because he even spoke against Jefferson Davis. So all an all though Lincoln's last quote was a last resort type of letter to try to keep Georgia from seceding. And the letter even worked somewhat because Stephens voted against the state of Georgia and the south in general seceding. So Lincoln wasn't honest, I mean come on the guy was a lawyer, but he was a dang good politician.

Irrelevant of what anyone said. Actions speak louder than words.

Well OFT, you're right about one thing; the "cursory" examination. Before declaring Mr. Lincoln a racist, pro-slavery, supremist; you should do a "thorough" examination of his actions/comments as president. You also don't include any comments from Frederick Douglass; the black, freed, abolishionist. Mr. Douglass knew Lincoln and would disagree with your opinion.

Lincoln's own words support my post

I think Lincoln was talking out of both sides of his mouth at the same time. It just depended upon who made up the audience. That tells me that being a president in these times hasn't changed very much.

You may note that the Emancipation Proclamation ONLY freed slaves in the rebelling colonies. Two slave states remained with the Union, and their slaves were NOT freed by the Proclamation.

Read it for yourself...don't take my word for it.

These Lincoln cult members are funny in their rush to defend the worst president our country has seen. This "christian" president promoted union generals who allowed the rape, pillage and plunder of children, women (non-combatants, slave or free), broke two armistice agreements (one w/ S. Carolina, the other with Florida), ordered troops into New York City to suppress the conscription riots of the Italian and Irish (movie: gangs of NY was historical revisionism), approved of state laws (IL, IN, OH, RI, MA) that BANNED blacks from moving into those states, had no problem with 33 known cases in NYC where slaves who had escaped or were even kidnapped were sold back to slave owners, consistently laughed and mocked preachers after attending worship till his campaign adviser told him to stop, saw to it that union dead were buried in the backyard of RE Lee's home (called Arlington), wrote on more than one occasion he wanted blacks deported to Latin America or Liberia. Tip of the iceberg... and he's responsible for this country being upside down where states serve the federal government instead of the other way around (as it Constitutionally should).

Who gives a damn?? That was FOREVER ago!! That's our problem as black people. Too busy dwelling on the past for an excuse for why we won't pull 2gether and excel as a race. Get over it, DAMN!! IF we stop acting like crabs, pulling each other down when one makes it out, and join 2gether we can be as strong and powerful as a brick building. I guess the white man is making us wear pajamas all day and rollers in our hair in public too. U have 2 dress the part to get the part. #Charles Strickland Jr.

To the teacher. I recommend reading The Real Lincoln and Lincoln Unmasked, by Thomas J. Dilorenzo. Thomas has many references noted throughout his two books to back him up.

Lincoln attemted the arrest of the 84 yr old Supreme Court Chief Justice for ruling the war to be unconstitutional. Lincoln arested and jailed editors and owners of 300 northern newspapers that disagreed with the war. Lincoln started the income tax, that was later ruled as unconstitutional. Lincoln was not a nice guy, but a rich trial lawyer who worked as a DC lobbyist for the northern railroads. One of his first act was the passing of the bill to subsidize the northern railroads with taxpayers money, as payback for getting elected. Read what Walt Williams says about Lincoln. It was all about the 50% hike in the tariff in 1860, that hurt the south mostly and helped the north manufacturing industry. 50%, and we only have a 6% slaes tax in Florida. What would we do if there was a new 50 sales tax on all that we bought?

Lincoln is the object of the Lincoln Cult to bring about the hamiltonian socialist dream of an all powerful central government and the states are rendered powerless, as well as the people.

All European countries ended slavery without war. Lincoln had a war killing 600,000 americans to protect his collection of federal taxes, of which 90 some odd percent were collected in southern ports. So, the war was about taxes, very high taxes. He immediately sent the Navy to blockade the southern ports to collect the tariff before the ships landed. The South was a different country, called the CSA.

Lincoln is no different than the pharoahs of egypt, for he has a huge statue made of him. President worship is unamerican, as king worship, yet we digress, as we forget to pass on the truth to our children.

President Lincoln's assassination

REALLY?

Don't you just love how American History seems to change according to what the political demands of our government?

THIS IS THE VIEWS AND DEBATES BY ABRAHAM LINCOLN.
Lincoln said:

There is a natural disgust in the minds of nearly all white people to the idea of indiscriminate amalgamation of the white and black races ... A separation of the races is the only perfect preventive of amalgamation, but as an immediate separation is impossible, the next best thing is to keep them apart where they are not already together. If white and black people never get together in Kansas, they will never mix blood in Kansas ...

Lincoln said:

In the language of Mr. Jefferson, uttered many years ago, "It is still in our power to direct the process of emancipation, and deportation, peaceably, and in such slow degrees, as that the evil will wear off insensibly; and in their places be, pari passu [on an equal basis], filled up by free white laborers."

I have no purpose directly or indirectly to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.

Lincoln said:

I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and black races. There is physical difference between the two which, in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality, and inasmuch as it becomes a necessity that there must be a difference, I, as well as Judge Douglas, am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position.

Lincoln said:

Our republican system was meant for a homogeneous people. As long as blacks continue to live with the whites they constitute a threat to the national life. Family life may also collapse and the increase of mixed breed bastards may some day challenge the supremacy of the white man.

He was assassinated by Wilkes Booth a member of his own political party.

MY QUOATE:

TRUTH WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL - where the lies will always fail us and leave the world in the darkness that shadows the core of our American history, and ruin what our forefathers had envisioned as the free world .

Our Founding Truth said...

Do you have dates for those quotes?

Unknown said...

Forget all of the various detailed options and counter options. Whatever he was, Lincoln was a statist - a tyrant and a despicable human being. We live today with the fruits of his blood lust, namely an unnecessary, contrived war which, at its end, would enable him to control the disheveled nation as a dictator. "Until we get back on our feet, etc." No different than FDR's motive. Death upset the plans of both, the two worst presidents of all time.

jeff B said...

I have very old books about Lincoln. Those racist quotes are fake. He was not raised a racist. His mother was nothing of the kind. And it crushed him when he saw slaves for the first time. It is why he vowed to end it. If you knew his real life story, you would realize that racist quotes would contradict many verified quotes.
