Who was Thomas Jefferson's God?

Jon at American creation makes the claim Thomas Jefferson's God was not Jehovah, the God of Israel. The problem is Jefferson never says his God is not the God of Israel. Jefferson let's everyone believe he's a Christian and his three idols: Bacon, Newton and Locke all believed in the God of Abraham.

;-)

Jefferson also used the Pillar of Fire in Exodus as one of his personal seals. If Jehovah was not his God, his God was no other either.

Jefferson gets too much ink anyway.

In a general sense it's more evidence that Nature's God in the DOI is Jehovah. This coming from a staunch Unitarian who criticized the Jews for distorting the old testament.

Jefferson called himself a "unitarian," small "u," but he doesn't even qualify as that, at least a unitarian circa 1800.

They believed Jesus wasn't God, but still the Messiah, the Savior. Jefferson doesn't go this far:

"The word UNITARIANISM, as denoting this opposition to Trinitarianism, undoubtedly expresses the character of a considerable part of the ministers of this town and its vicinity, and the commonwealth...We both agreed in our late conference, that a majority of our brethren believe, that Jesus Christ is more than man, that he existed before the world, that he literally came from heaven to save our race, that he sustains other offices than those of a teacher and witness to the truth, and that he still acts for our benefit, and is our intercessor with the Father. This we agreed to be the prevalent sentiment of our brethren."
